Our New Guide to Exploring the Whitsundays on Foot

We’re delighted to announce the publication of Walking The Whitsundays – A Guide to 45 Island and Mainland Walks, a brand-new guidebook from Windward Publications.

For more than 40 years, 100 Magic Miles of the Great Barrier Reef – The Whitsunday Islands has helped visitors explore the Whitsundays by boat. Our new book turns its attention to what you can discover once you step ashore.

Written by Emma and Anthony Colfelt, Walking The Whitsundays covers 45 walks across 12 islands and the mainland, including tracks on Whitsunday Island, South Molle Island, Hamilton Island, around Airlie Beach, in Conway National Park and further north around Bowen.

The 304-page, full-colour guide includes everything you need to choose and enjoy a walk, with:

  • Detailed maps, distances, walking times and difficulty grades
  • Elevation profiles and practical information about track conditions
  • Easy strolls, family-friendly walks and more challenging island climbs
  • Full-colour photographs throughout
  • Stories about the Whitsundays’ history, people and places
  • Information about the plants, wildlife, geology and landscapes you encounter along the way

The book has been more than a decade in the making, drawing on years of walking, researching and photographing the region.

Where 100 Magic Miles belongs in the cockpit, we like to think Walking The Whitsundays belongs in the backpack.
