It has been wonderful to see Walking The Whitsundays – A Guide to 45 Island and Mainland Walks attracting plenty of attention since its release.
After more than a decade spent researching, walking, photographing and writing the book, seeing the story picked up by local and regional media has been a particularly satisfying part of finally getting it out into the world.
Walking the Whitsundays on 7NEWS Mackay

We were delighted to see Walking The Whitsundays featured by 7NEWS Mackay, helping introduce the book and the Whitsundays’ extraordinary walking experiences to a wider North Queensland audience.
The Whitsundays might be best known for sailing, islands and beaches, but there is another side to the region that is often overlooked. From short coastal strolls to mountain summits and multi-day island adventures, walking offers an entirely different perspective on the landscapes of the Whitsundays.

A decade of exploration featured in the Whitsunday Times and Courier-Mail
The story behind the book was also featured by the Whitsunday Times and Brisbane’s Courier-Mail in an article titled Decade of exploration culminates in new guide to 45 Whitsundays walks.
The article traces the book back to 2011, when we began systematically exploring the walking tracks of the islands by boat, camping and walking as many of them as we could.
It also recounts one of the less glamorous moments in the book’s development – Emma breaking her ankle after slipping on a wet rock while photographing Coral Cove on Hamilton Island. Surgery and weeks off her feet followed, although work on the book continued throughout her recovery.
More than a decade later, all of that research has become a 304-page guide covering 45 walks across the Whitsunday Islands and mainland, including Airlie Beach, Conway National Park and Bowen.

New Guide Puts The Whitsundays On Foot

The launch was also covered locally by Mackay and Whitsunday Life under the headline New Guide Puts The Whitsundays On Foot.
The story captures what we ultimately hope the book will achieve: encouraging visitors and locals to slow down, explore beyond the region’s famous beaches and waterways, and discover more of the landscapes, wildlife, history and stories encountered along the way.
Tourism Whitsundays CEO Tim Booth summed it up beautifully, describing the book as an opportunity for people to “explore more deeply and experience a different side” of the Whitsundays.

We are very grateful to the journalists and media outlets who have taken an interest in Walking The Whitsundays, and to the local businesses, tourism operators, walkers and readers who have supported the book since its launch.
Most of all, we hope the coverage encourages a few more people to lace up their walking shoes and discover just how much of the Whitsundays there is to explore on foot.
