WALKING

The islands of the Whitsundays have a significant number of tracks that reward walkers with spectacular views of this magic island group. Tracks range from gentle graded climbs through diverse bushland and across grasslands to scrambles up some of the highest promontories in the Whitsundays.

The Whitsunday Ngaro Sea Trail provides the ultimate experience for trekkers, yachtsmen, kayakers and campers to stretch their legs and appreciate some of the finest seascapes in the world and visit some of the oldest sites of human habitation on earth. The trail integrates walks and tracks on Whitsunday Island, South Molle Island and Nara Inlet with access to the Ngara Cultural Centre home to extensive cultural deposits and a rock shelter with Ngaro art motifs . The walking tracks within the Trail range in level of difficulty and length providing something for everyone. The waters between the walks are generally calm and easy to navigate by kayak or small boat.

Other walks can be found on Long Island, Brampton Island, Hamilton Island and Lindeman Island.

Scaling Whitsunday Peak

One of the more challenging walks on the islands is the climb up to Whitsunday Peak on Whitsunday Island. From Dugong Beach, there is a track that winds its way along the coast to Sawmill Beach, offering glimpses of azure water through the trees. This is the easy part, for after pausing at Sawmill Beach to check out some rusty remnants of the old sawmill, you will start your ascent to the
